Former Adecco Group CEO Alain Dehaze's "4P" model embodies the essential formula: People x Purpose x Performance = Profit. The key to successful business management is to ask the right questions around these topics.

 People x Purpose x Performance = Profit

The first question concerns ‘People’: do we have the right people for the right jobs? Are we able to attract, engage, develop and retain passionate people? What is the staff turnover?

Next, we need to assess 'Purpose': are our purpose, strategy, ambition and objectives clear and understood by our employees? Do our employees understand how their work contributes to this Purpose, to the realisation of the strategy and to the company's overall objectives? Can we ensure that everyone in our organisation is aligned with the same vision?

The ‘Performance’ dimension is just as crucial: are all our employees working efficiently and productively?  Do they have the discipline and rigour needed to put in place the right business processes and work with determination to achieve optimum efficiency? Are our key processes established, understood and applied by employees?  Are our tools and information systems driving efficiency and prudctivity?

In this equation, ‘Profit’ is not an objective in itself, but the result of the formula that derives from each of the formula's components. If one or more of the first 3 P's are not optimal, the result of the formula, Profit, will be sub-optimal. Conversely, a company with 3 extremely competitive P's will be extraordinarily successful.
