Following several studies on the functioning of the human brain, researchers at the Pasteur Institute gave us 5 key tips to help make our grey matter more efficient.
- Sleep well
- Exercise regularly
- Perform intellectual exercises
- Avoid bodily pollution (stress, drugs, pollution, noise — internal and external factors)
- Interact and collaborate with others
While discussing the importance of collaboration during training sessions at a conference, Natacha de Saint Vincent explained how tip number 5, namely the interaction with others, could be easily integrated into any training session by means of a digital tool. To prove her point, she used Wooclap and invited her audience to actively participate. The goal was to turn her audience into contributors to their education, by showing them where they stood with respect to the point of view of those around them. To quote His Airness, Michael Jordan: “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships”.
One last point worth mentioning, is that people simply need to actin order for their brain to retain 90% of the information it is presented with. In other words, active participation, in the form of collaboration or basic interaction with the teacher or other participants, is enough to vastly increase the rate of retention.
